Zakat Calculator FAQs
What is the nisab for Zakat?
The nisab is the minimum wealth threshold. This calculator uses the classic values: 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. You only owe Zakat if your net zakatable assets reach or pass the nisab you choose.
Which assets count toward Zakat?
Cash and bank savings, gold and silver, stocks and investments, business inventory, and money owed to you. Your home, car and personal belongings are not zakatable. Debts due soon are subtracted before the nisab check.
Why are there two nisab values — gold and silver?
Both trace back to Prophetic measures. The silver nisab is worth less in today's money, so more people reach it. Many scholars advise following your school of thought's practice; when in doubt, the lower (silver) nisab is the cautious option.
Do I need to enter today's gold and silver prices?
Yes. The tool cannot fetch live market prices, so enter the current price per gram from your local jeweller or market. Keep them up to date for an accurate result.
Is this tool a fatwa?
No. It is a calculation aid that applies the standard 2.5% rule. Zakat rules differ between schools of thought and personal situations, so confirm important cases with a qualified scholar.
