PayPal Fee Calculator FAQs
How much does PayPal charge to receive $100?
At the standard US Goods & Services rate of 2.99% + $0.49, the fee on $100 is $3.48 and you receive $96.52. At the PayPal Checkout rate of 3.49% + $0.49, the fee is $3.98 and you receive $96.02.
How do I charge enough so the fee doesn't come out of my pocket?
Use the "I want to receive exactly" mode. To receive $100 after the standard 2.99% + $0.49 fee, charge (100 + 0.49) ÷ (1 − 0.0299) = $103.59 — the calculator does this gross-up for you.
What is the difference between Friends & Family and Goods & Services?
Friends & Family is free domestically when funded by a bank account or PayPal balance, but it has no purchase protection — and using it for business violates PayPal's terms. Goods & Services charges a fee and includes buyer and seller protection.
Are there extra fees for international payments?
Yes. PayPal adds a 1.50% cross-border fee on top of the domestic rate for US accounts, and a 3–4% currency conversion spread when currencies differ. The International option here uses 4.49% + $0.49.
When are micropayment rates worth it?
The micropayment rate (4.99% + $0.09) beats the standard rate only on small transactions — roughly under $10 per sale — because its $0.09 fixed fee is far smaller than $0.49. It must be enabled on your PayPal account.
