Hijri Date Converter FAQs
Why does the result sometimes differ by a day from the official calendar?
This tool uses the arithmetic (tabular) Hijri calendar, which follows a fixed 30-year cycle. Official calendars like Umm al-Qura follow actual moon sighting, so the month start can differ by 1-2 days. Use the day adjustment control to match your local announcement.
What conversion method does this tool use?
The widely used tabular (Kuwaiti) algorithm: a 30-year cycle with 11 leap years of 355 days, applied through Julian day numbers. It gives the standard civil Islamic calendar date.
Can I convert my Hijri birthday to a Gregorian date?
Yes — switch to the Hijri to Gregorian tab, enter your Hijri day, month and year, and you get the matching Gregorian date with its weekday. Keep the ±1 day note in mind.
How far back or forward does the converter work?
Any practical date: Hijri years around 1300 to 1600 and Gregorian dates from 1900 to 2100 are supported. The math holds far beyond that range.
What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?
It is the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, based on astronomical moon-sighting criteria rather than the fixed arithmetic cycle. It usually agrees with the tabular calendar but can differ by a day around month starts.
