Compress PDF FAQs

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the file. PDFs with repeated elements or bloated structure can shrink noticeably; already-optimized or scanned-image PDFs may barely change. The tool always shows before/after sizes so you can judge honestly.

Is this tool free? Why does it say Beta?

Yes, it is completely free. It is labeled Beta because compression results vary from file to file — the tool shows exact savings instead of promising a fixed percentage.

Does compression reduce quality?

Text and vector graphics are unaffected. On the Stronger setting, large embedded images may be re-encoded at lower quality — always check the result before sending it anywhere important.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser — your file never leaves your device.

My scanned PDF barely shrank. Why?

Scanned PDFs are really just photos of pages, so there is little redundant structure to remove. Re-scanning at a lower resolution works better for those files.
